Many years ago I went out for a drive with my brother-in-law who had just 
moved to the Boston suburbs.  Somewhere between Needham and Newton he 
stopped for a stop sign and almost got rear ended by a local driver who then 
pulled up, rolled down his window and shouted, "You idiot!  Nobody stops for 
that stop sign!"  So much for Boston drivers!

Most of the danger arises from the interaction among drivers sharing
the road. Massachusetts, where I live, is infamous for its crazy drivers,
and in my experience almost any driver is safe if he or she is
anticipated.
