You need to create the tone within the program, then play it either from 
within the program or througha playerafter saving.

Couple things come to mind as I use the tone function quite often to do 
various tests. It is quite useful.

1) You must use either .WAV or some other uncompressed file method.  
MP2/MP3 do strange things to tones.
2) You want to verify the tone with a counter or some other known 
standard.  I can not state with any certainty Audition's tone generator 
is accurate to the Hertz between computers.
3) You want to create the tone at around -2dBfs to achieve best 
resolution and least jitter.

I've never heard of file length variations when using WAV/PCM files.
