I think he meant using Audition to generate the tone. I have a stack of wave files on the laptop HD generated by Audition with a variety of frequencies and amplitudes including single frequencies, sweeps, stepped frequencies, and pink noise (Audition can also create white and brown noise). I play them back through a semi-pro audio interface for measurements of frequency response and gain. The HP audio generator and distortion analyzer were retired to the shop several years ago as I can do everything I need to do in the field with the laptop and appropriate software. After all, I don't have to align reel-to-reels and cart machines these days, and my other needs for audio generation and analysis in the field have decreased in the last decade or so.
