Both BMD and Matrox have had bumps with computer hardware and have thrown up
their hands in the past when user group members couldn't find fixes on
their own. Matrox did spend time testing a few stock computers and a few
DIY MB combinations publishing a short list of hardware they endorsed for
some of their cards. I dropped them when Adobe added good support for
general I/O hardware including some BMD stuff without requiring Matrox
custom modules and drivers. Problem with Matrox was their propensity to not
support Adobe updates. Not a good thing when you had a big investment in
Matrox hardware and software.
Back a number of years ago generic fire wire I/O began to be directly
supported by Adobe for those who were using it for DV I/O. So there was no
longer any need to buy a Matrox solution. At one point I closely questioned
a Matrox sales engineer since they were still implying you needed their
solution for real time timeline editing. Turned out that Adobe had already
eclipsed that requirement with their own codecs that took advantage of CUDA
cores of many good PC video cards. Today I can edit multiple HD timeline
tracks in real time without any special hardware. My BMD card is used for
monitoring purposes, video and audio. In fact it is my main audio card for
audio only apps too. But everything has become drag and drop or streamed
over Firewire, USB 3, etc. So video capture these days is really at the
source, delivered to the editor via memory cards and stored on a production
team server. Ingestion for post is mostly file driven these days.
I recall one Jerry rigged Matrox system that required you to by specific
audio cards to go with their video processing cards as they were not
providing their own audio I/O at one time.

Not too sure but it seems to be computer dependent. According to the BM
community BM seems disinterested in fixing it.
