With the present config, the video gear has no audio interface. Perhaps somebody makes an SDI - HDMI converter with an audio injection port; I'll research. That would solve the problem completely. I'll have a look at the Matrox unit also, and the converters. Very helpful, thank you. 

BTW:  I love the clapboard idea.  Isn't that how either Archimedes or Newton (forget which) discovered the square law of gravity -- by rolling a ball downhill in a marked channel, and clapping his hands to a piece of music with a regular rhythm.
