Recently discovered what appears to be a rather effective preventive...
I've a camper which has routinely been the winter home
of the destructive, filthy critters.
Someone told me, and I tried it.
A bag of used cat litter !
I placed two bags about 15 apart, leaving the tops open.
Yeah, it smells a bit, but that's the point !
Most critters will try to actively avoid predators.
Not 100%, but a surprising reduction in "evidence."
Probably be more effective if I changed the bag more often,
to keep it fresher so to speak. Apparently, every other month
or so isn't often enough.
I'd tried ammonia, but it evaporates quickly, as well as having
other destructive properties, although the smell is
mostly the same. Apparently mice can tell the difference, too.
