I tackle small stuff like exciters, processors, and mod monitors in my shop, but the biggest broadcast transmitter that I can put on my rather small bench is an LPB AM-100P (I have had three of the LPBs in the shop in the last couple of months). I also have no experience with any of the solid state AMs other than a number of Nautel models, the BE AM1A/500A, and the Harris SX series and their Gates cousins, most of which are too big to drag home. In any case the biggest dummy loads I have are for 1 kw AM and 500 watts for FM and above so that limits what I can handle. All in all for most transmitter repairs if you have to send it out you are best off sending it to Mike Patton. What I do is done for clients in my region, but I have no desire to bring in work on a nation-wide basis - I'll leave that to Mike, who at nearly a decade younger than myself is just a very experienced kid. :-)
