Chip:

Thanks for the advice and comments. I'm not familiar with Aphex Compellors, so I will investigate.

As to mic technique: church folks are funny that way compared to broadcast pros. Many church folks don't really want to be heard because they aren't accustomed to public speaking. I've seen countless liturgists head up to the lectern, announce their Scripture reading, hear themselves from the house system and stage monitors, then back off like they just saw a black widow spider on the desk. Of course, the AF board op inches up the slider until incipient feedback, then gets dirty looks for making 'squeaks.' It's a no-win situation. You can't run a coaching class for everyone in the congregation, and they won't come early to practice. Exception: praise band. Those dudes and dudettes love to practice their hearts out take after take after take.... just to get it right. God bless 'em.

BTW: Mediacom same way here, too .. always have to adjust the sound level after changing channels. Some are quite weak, and others blast the TV off its pedestal. They say they just repeat the incoming audio from their head-ends. Compressor?? Whazzat??

Thanks/Regards/J
