[BC] Need AF line leveler

Folks:

For church I'm taking the Aux-4 output of a Mackie audio board, feeding it into a DA, then splitting to 4 audio and video recorders and streamers. It works, but my channel levels are all over the place, and I'm having a hard time with it. My audio board guys are senior-age church volunteer help... no further explanation required.  I need electronic control. I have a dbx-266 in line to squash the Halalujah! crescendos, but the real low stuff like the Children's Moment lady who holds the handheld wireless mic around belly button level gets lost in the mud.  Old man Kahn's Level Devil would be sweet, but that's a museum piece. I've considered a simple diode clipper.  Any suggestions?  Sorry, but an Optimod would exceed our annual budget.
