That parallels my experience.  I went to work in radio in 1985 and
heard of SBE for the first time about two years after I moved into TV
which would have been around 1996.  This tells me that SBE was pretty
much always a large market phenomenon, even back when there was still
a point in its existence.

Again, not hating on SBE, just calling it like I see it.
