Common practice where you have remote SLIC's to provide generator inlets so 
when the CO receives a low battery alarm from a cabinet the telco techs can 
deliver small generators to those locations without power to keep them 
running.  I live down a dirt road whose SLIC cabinet was kept alive during 
Hurricane Irene providing me with phone and DSL connectivity.  In my house 
an UPS and my small Honda inverter/generator kept the refrigerator cold 
(beer), the computers, ham station and DVD player running.  :-)
