Not to get too far off the main point, there is a balance between
self-responsibility and true abject negligence. That pendulum has swung
too far to the socialist side of the balance where awards are simply off
the wall without any manner of logic.  I can see those sent merely as
messages while others are true to the case merits. It's those crafted by
shady practices which create the bad name for the process and are abused
by so many.

There is a county here in Illinois famous for accepting class action cases.
It's a real mess out there.
