Powell:

Long-distance AM at night has long been rendered sub-optimal by ruinous
interference from unintended noise generators, drying-out of the earth with
its reduction in ground conductivity, and man-made intentional interference
from IBUZ. Effective nighttime long-distance operation of high-powered AM
stations is an anachronism; a delusional fantasy of GMs and PDs who imagine
near-national overnight coverage to aggrandize their billing rates and
exaggerate claims to audience share. There is no need to enhance their
nighttime groundwave signals.

>So, Dave, you want to make the 50KW stations power down to 10 at night and
add stations and make a 50KW station nearly worthless at night? That's what
you just said. These stations with 50KW at night need every watt for their
local groundwave coverage.
