Al Leighton, radio station owner, dies

Al Leighton, owner of Leighton Broadcasting and member of the Minnesota Museum of Broadcast Hall of Fame, died this morning, according to Dan Ochsner, a long-time Leighton employee.

Leighton was 86. He was a longtime broadcaster and owner of radio stations in Minnesota and North Dakota. Leighton Broadcasting owns four stations in St. Cloud: KCLD-FM, KNSI-AM, KZPK-FM and KCML-FM. He also owns four stations in Detroit Lakes and Grand Forks, N.D.

Leighton was among the first inductees to the Minnesota Broadcast Hall of Fame in 2001. He started in broadcasting in 1951 in Brainerd and is a past president of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association, according to the Broadcast Hall of Fame.
