 Also, I was introduced to WD-40. Squirt that into the ribbon reels and you have a new ribbon without even changing it! It would migrate ink from the portion of the reel that was never struck by a hammer to the active region. You could do this many times before the ribbon really needed to be changed because the paper was printed in "oil!
