I'd say the marketplace -did- decide, (it always eventually does).
Namely, that it did not value AM Stereo no matter what flavor.
I believe it would have made little difference if a system were chosen
and made to stick even as 'early' as 1970. Music AM was doomed. When,
not if. Could the 'when' have been postponed slightly? We'll never
know but my guess is nope.
Yeah, it was kinda fun for us as AM lovers to play with here and there,
and that it worked as well as it did was pretty amazing at the time, but
it was still lipstick on a pig to the normal consumer.
That said, here's some red meat: To be fair, it still worked better
than hybrid mode AM IBAC.
