Richard,

I totally agree with what you are saying.  I didn't mean to convey 
the idea that the L-R channel was transmitted as an AM signal, but it 
is an AM signal (process) within the FM baseband.  I had assumed it 
was understood that in the case of the FM's L-R signal that it was 
within the FM signal's baseband.  However, my point for this 
discussion was that an AM modulated signal can carry wide bandwidth 
audio regardless of the method of transport.

Sorry for the delay in commenting, I've been running around like a 
head with my chicken cut off.
