[BC] Technicalities

I once attended a Management session at the NAB in Las Vegas. At the time I
was managing a standalone AM in a competitive market. The topic was on small
market sales pointers and promotions. One presenter advised keeping an
accurate time piece when using cellular phones for remote broadcasts. This
was back in the analog "bag phone" days. The station's plan called for a 50%
rate reduction for calls made after 8 pm.

One night the station broadcast a high school basketball game via the cell
phone. The announcer dialed in and did a level check and broadcast the game.
No technical problems. When the station received the bill it was for full
rate. The announcer made the call at 7:59 pm, hence they had to pay the full
freight. The wording of their contract was 50% rate for all calls made after
8 pm.

It was difficult to hear the presenter due to all the screaming. The heads
of the pennies in his pocket were screaming in pain from being pinched so
hard :-) Good point, though.
