Then ignore what I said. I use Windows 7 and I know what I'm talking about, but just forget I ever tried to help. The Internet is filled with "wives tales" about the "new" security and, except for the fact that user-mode code cannot directly to hardware, its just BS.

Again: It already knows about the network. It was previously installed. The problem was that it would not work when connected to another network wire. Read the question and answer before you state that the answer is incorrect.

With Windows 7 it's not that simple.  The increased security (among other things, telling the OS what kind of network it is, which in turn configures network security) insures at least a few config dialogs after you reboot.
