I don't like to complicate things either, but since we rotate times, it's only every couple weeks that a jock may have an EAS test on their shift. Until they have done it often, they need reminders. I have the directions posted, but they still need reminding. To you and me it's easy, how hard is "press week, enter password, 1234, then hit proceed when you want it to go." Remember we are dealing with "creative artists" who aren't the most techno savvy in the world. I'm already running three screens in each control room and adding another or even asking these artists to switch windows on a screen may be more than they can handle.
On another note, I wish Sage had a Linux version of the program I could run as my internet computers in the control rooms are all on Linux.

Even now, months after the installation, I have jocks coming to me with "how do I run a Weekly...." or "how can I choose to send this when I want, rather than waiting for it to automatically interrupt me?" We are getting better and most of the operators have figured it out so there are many less questions, largely in part because of the weekly tests. Putting them in the wee hours means the practice will go to the jocks having the least number of listeners or for many of us, automated times. I may not be around during drive time to help the operator handle a critical alert.

Well, at KWXY I told all of the operators how to run an RWT: "Push this button. When the buzzing noises stop, go back to what you were doing." I also posted instructions on the wall, in case somebody couldn't remember the instructions. RMTs, CAEs, TORs, TSWs, etc. could be handled similarly ("Push the button next to the blinking light.") or just allowed to time out and play automatically. I don't like to make things complicated.
Now, I never said that EAS is NEVER useful -- but it is not 100% effective either.
