The problem with not running Amber alerts is that sooner or later the PC police will get you.  After all, it's all about the children, and if you choose not to run them, you must be against children. [/sarcasm]
 
Around here they're not abusing the Amber alert capability, at least not yet.  We've had a few, and a few of those have even been successful at finding the children reported missing.
