Richard B. Johnson states: "The fire official knocked the microphone away after it was shoved into his face by an arrogant reporter who staged the confrontation. I'm fairly sure that many viewers agree."
I see. "Arrogance" is now defined as when a reporter asks a public official to be accountable to the public he supposedly serves. If that isn't a classic example of the proper role of the fourth estate in a republic, what is? I see that you are also apparently clairvoyant, since you seem to know that the reporter staged the confrontation. Where's your evidence? (Hint: TV cameras don't roll around on 300-pound dollies anymore. The camera operator wears it on his/her shoulder. Nothing has to be "staged" anymore.)
All the fire official had to do was wait until the question had been asked in its entirety. Instead, he threw a temper tantrum worthy of a two-year-old in a sandbox who doesn't want to play nice with others.
It's all too easy these days to accuse all TV news of being overly glitzy, sensationalist and emotionally manipulative. But then, here comes an example of a reporter actually doing the job he should be doing, and he gets lumped in with all the rest of the TV news trash. Sad.
