I had an inspector visit a few years ago. He was there for only one of our
AM stations. The inspection, including trip to the transmitter, took about
90 minutes. No problems or concerns at all. The GM was miffed because the
ABIP inspector took most of the day (for three stations) and nit picked
minor details.
I believe it was the first impressions that meant a lot. We were at the
address on our license. There was a full staff present. The Station License,
Designation of Chief Operator, Public File and other documents were all
present and accounted for. There was a secure fence around the tower, tower
registration sign properly posted. All the key ingredients were proper and
in place.
I was once hired to rectify violations at a DA-2 station. The only two
things the inspector found in compliance were that the station was on
frequency and not overmodulating. While the repairs were not expensive to
fix, the owner was basically told to sell to a qualified buyer, which he
did.
