If you're 16 miles over nothing, then there's nothing to worry about
using 5.8Ghz ISM. I do 7 miles over a city with 2 WISPs in town using
5.8, nothing wrong with it at all. Just had to do our own little
frequency coordination to make things happy and we stay away from each
other.
People have this problem with it, apparently you just don't want to
the footwork. A friendly phone call to a few people and you'll have no
problems. Not to mention at 5.8Ghz, the beam is so tight it'd take
quite a bit to get interference. I use a 26dBi dish on my setup, the
path width is all of 10 feet. Compared to 950 that needs 30-50 feet,
it's quite dramatic, not to mention i'm pushing 4 LPCM audio signals
plus ethernet and phone out there over a standard IP link. Audio is
carried on a Moseley Rincon, phone is a simple SIP calling system
using cheap linksys SPA adapters, and i still have enough overhead to
get 50Mbit of data to my backup automation system... Again, why
wouldn't you? Oh, and this whole link, including the Moseley, tower
climbers and radios, About $3k... Try doing that with 950 or 6Ghz.
