It depends on who your audience is, and who you want it to be.
I learned of George Harrison's death one night flipping channels in a hotel room in New York. MTV had dropped their usual fare and was playing every music video he was ever in. No commercials or anything, and I just sat there and watched for hours.
I didn't even think to check what local radio was doing. I'm sure CBS-FM or Q104 was doing something. So as a fan, MTV hit one out of the park for me. I do think most of their normal "Real World" audience was confused, not knowing who GH was, and who would want to hear "Crackerbox Palace", let alone watch the video.
