[BC] Pander, PC speak, or what?

I was not going to start a thread on Whitney Houston, as it will
inevitably mutate into a discussion of drug use. However, it
might be instructive to discuss how Broadcasters brought the
story to their audiences.

Reactions range from Gov. Christie putting NJ flags at half-mast,
while the NJ Association of Broadcasters is starting a campaign
to combat prescription drug abuse and get old/un-used/un-needed
drugs out of homes and offices. At the other end of the country,
KFI's afternoon team was suspended for negative comments
about Ms. Houston.

In general:
Some stations stopped and went All Whitney, All the Time.
Some stations focused on the mixed message that the media
has sent, especially given the reckless lifestyle involved.
Some stations just let the automation play.

What should broadcasters do when an artist dies?

Because of the likelihood that the thread will rapidly stray
from broadcast operations and programming, all followups
will be directed to the Alternate Frequency.
