I love the cow suggestion! Better ground and save on taxes as well! 
 
I appreciate all the input.  My guess is this site has suffered from years of neglect.  I'm sure the current ground system hasn't been maintained in years.  At the moment, this is all conjecture, but at least I have a better idea about what I might be walking into.  Thanks!
