Seriously, George, I've seen it done both ways - in fact, I have boards
running right now that are muted at the output and some are muted at the
input; with solid state amps, it normally doesn't hurt for them to run
unloaded (because they aren't, really) i.e; no speakers - but some
manufacturers don't include power amps in the board, so in those cases
muting is done on the input to the power amp.
As long as there's no problem with the connecting cables, input mute
should be just as effective as output mute.
