Chuck,

As long as your RDS generator is reasonably stable, you should have no 
problem using the internal PLL to generate the 57 without the presence of 
the 19. I wondered the same thing when adding RDS to a 100kw mono news 
station a couple years ago. It was a Burke unit which really was an Audemat 
unit inside. The RDS worked fine all by itself out in the clear. It was with 
a Digit exciter. I do seem to remember eliminating the 90 degree phase shift 
setting...you may have to play with that.

thinking there is a 19 kHz pilot to lock on to. Has anyone done that?  It 
might be easier (and cheaper) to just buy one of the Pira-CZ RDS encoders, 
which does not require an external pilot.
