Dark towers are bad news, quite literally.

I am reminded that the owner of the most powerful station within a
certain Southern state, which station had a six tower array, each of
which was 200 degrees tall, turned his tower lighting off and walked
away from his station.

He, subsequently, attempted to sell the license and the dark site to
another party for what would be a quite modest sum, for this 50,000
watt, day and 10,000 watt, night, station.

The FCC canceled the license, and the sale was rescinded.

Incredibly, this Class II-B station, what would now be a Class B
station, was, then, the most powerful station anywhere on that
frequency, even more powerful than the Canadian and Mexican Class I-
Bs, now Class As, both of which were, and are grandfathered at 10 kW,
day and night.

1500 in the Los Angeles area, Burbank, to be specific, has been dark
for a great many years.

All attempts to resurrect this 1500 have failed.

Originally KBLA, perhaps now DKROQ or DKBBQ, this is yet another
example of a Class IV, now Class C, on 1490 which was later converted
to a Class II-B, now Class B, on 1500.

The first attempted resurrection, as 50,000 watts day and 14,000
watts night, was still-born as the application specified a site, not
owned by the applicant, which was actually within the riparian rights
of the City of Los Angeles, and which the City would never have
allowed to be constructed in the first place.
