Turntables were a LOT of maintenance. You were always needing to clean the idler wheels, lubricate them, or replace them. The motors were always giving trouble. Those little rubber shock mounts would rot out every few years. The stepped shafts (what did we call them? Not pulleys, surely?) needed cleaning, and they sometimes actually wore down and changed the record playback speed.
You would adjust the little setscrews for the RIGHT amount of tension between the platter, the motor, and the idler, and the DJ's always thought they knew better. Back the screws all the way out for the maximum tension (and start speed). Then the idlers would get flat spots overnight......
And we won't even go into cartridges and styli.....
Now, where's my can of 3-in-1 oil?

I knew any of those songs on those records I could download off itunes, Napster, etc. I gave the turntables to a guy who has a little internet station he broadcast part-time on.
