[BC] my troublesome HP OfficeJet 7000

Hello:

Not muchprogress on the Officejet. As you recall, the printer works fine when printing at the local computer. Whenever a networked computer attempts to print to he shared printer, it takes about two minutes for the Print dialog box to appear.

On one of my computers, the Print dialog never does show up, and the application used to initiate the print becomes "Not Responding." Even though the application stops responding, the errant print job chews up 125 MB of memory (100%) and then gives back about 50% of that used memory. It will bounce back and forth from using half, to using all memory over a time period of about 30 seconds. In task manager, there are many short spikes of high memory usage. This memory usage profile does not change whether or not the printing application is responding or not.

Once I kill the nonresponsive application, the memory usage drops to about 5% which is normal for this computer.

I did not have this condition with my Parallel port Epson C88+, which was networked, and it worked fine.

What would happen if my USB port used by the new 7000 printer, is too slow for some reason? Any advantage had by connecting the printer directly to the network? I'm hesitant to put any more time into this loser HP Printer.

Ten years ago, I lost most of my hair getting their (6ESi ?) LaserJet printers to work out of the box. Some things never change. This printer is a real turkey. HP tech support is without a clue.

BTW, I'm using all the latest drivers and HP's diagnostics tell me that there is nothing wrong, which is even more pathetic.

Whatever this problem is, it's rather advanced. Have you ever seen a problem like this before, either with this particular model, or any other HP printer?
