...and then goes and gets a job in IT or somewhere with fixed hours, good benefits, and no oil-filled HV power supplies.

I've never really worked on one of the newer computer monitors, is there any HV in those?  Working on the older CRT type monitors was the last place an IT guy might have run across high voltage on the job, I suppose, and that was back when they were expensive enough to bother repairing.
