You are among a minority in the United States of America. You own and operate a radio station. The only way anyone can essentially do that today, in any way shape or form, is to have a bank full of money no matter what the power, frequency or modulation.
We have heard enough about your very happy with your signal being 250 Watts. Also how much you save by not being 1 kW. However it seems that you don't agree with the "Be All You Can Be" attitude that most of the technical types on this forum present. That's our job.... To better the signals, make the coverage better, more power in the sidebands, etc. Don't fault technicians for doing their jobs.
You seem to be trying to save all the power you can for 250 Watts that covers your market adequately and have everything operating about as cheaply as you can get and are not satisfied.
Increase your power to 1 kW. and double the Sunday church rates. Even after a few cancellations you will have more revenue.
Where the majority of us would jump to 500 or 1000 Watts at the opportunity and as soon as we got a little money in the bank invest some with a consultant to see if we could move to 2500 Watts. You keep telling us that we need to go back to the old days.
If you and family are happy, that's what counts in the world. Don't waste any more time any money on theoretical radiation, new antennas, power factor reduction gimmicks to reduce your AC usage on the transmitter. Hit the streets and sell spots. Work up a 30 day package of spots that brings in folks to a local restaurant for daily lunch specials. Show your local merchants you care by getting results. That's really what local radio is about. Bring back the value of a radio station to your market. It is being done and certainly can be done.
You and your wife, whom I have met, are nice folks. I can't believe that you alone have upset so many of the technical wizards on this forum.
Best regards,
Dave Hultsman
