Not really. PA-E is not hard. However, given the combined nature of solid
state TX's, the only real way to meter is current sample all the RF
devices. Even a Nautel ND-1 has 3 FET pallets to monitor.
Larger TX's is a different story with multiple power supplies and even
more PA modules. You need a complex control system to reliably monitor
them. And not cheap to do in an analog environment.
Besides, with the high degree of accuracy achiveable by today's sampling
systems, indirect method is not necessary any longer. It's a good back-up
and diagnostic tool. But not necessary.
