Many have aux transmitters and modern solid state
transmitters have low failure rates. Gone are the days
of balancing the modulator tubes, etc. Back in the day
annual audio proofs were required, that is probably
why you heard tones.

The reason you've never heard anything more from the
Blue Network Company is that they evolved into manufacturing
RF connectors. We commonly know them as BNC's :-)
