I have not only made it the default, I removed the on board card from
the bios, deleted its drivers, etc. The DJB shows the M-Audio card in
its hardware settings and lets you select which output to use. When you
press play the meters jump up (as if to play the first frame) and them
just stop. The software does not hang, per se, it just does not play.
