Some people have a tin ear and can't tell the difference.  I worked with a PD once who, despite repeated rants on my part insisted on using mp3's downloaded from file sharing sites on-air.  He claimed they "sounded fine" to him.
Indeed, there are participants on this list that I wouldn't allow anywhere near any of my airchains either judging by comments made on what they considered good audio quality.
