Until recently I still saw rather high end remote trucks wired with 
christmas tree blocks for the audio.  This was explained to me by a 
remote truck manufacturer as then only way they found to keep 
connections over time from road vibrations, bumps, etc.  The first 
consoles I every wired up were Ampros with christmas tree blocks, step 
faders and that silly 32 gauge Kynar insulated wire.

I understand the Ampro company came to grief over some fraud with early 
NWS transmitters that used Ampro cart machines....bad...bad machines.
