In most major markets the Easy Listening station was often #1. When I 
was programming WJIB(FM) everything changed at 10am. WBZ owned the 
market in morning drive. From 10am to 7pm we dominated the market. We 
were locally programmed at the time. Record companies stopped 
recording the stuff and the holy grail of lower demos "demanded" 
cover versions of current hits.

We made a lot of money on 8 commercial units an hour. Our audience 
bought the high end cars. I guess bubble gum was more profitable. The 
format is still viable with some minor tweaks. We just need to 
replace the fweaks running the stations with gutsy businesspeople.
