Well, yes... KWXY was still #4 or #5 in this market (the two Mexican-format FMs were the top two) in spite of the moribund programming and promotion in the past 4 years or so. I don't mean to say that BM is moribund, it's just that with the station being sold, there was no impetus to freshen the library, tighten up the playlist, and keep the jocks from constantly playing their favorite cuts.
OK, by "freshen the library" I mean, add newer things that still fit the format -- Barry Manilow, Harry Connick, Jr., Michael Buble', Daniel O'Donnell, Celtic Woman, and now Susan Boyle. By "tighten up the playlist" I don't mean to imply cutting out most of the library of 17,000 songs, but to eliminate a few "clinkers" and then organize the playlist to eliminate "train wrecks."
If that had been done, plus sponsor a couple of concerts a year and do other promotions, the ratings could have been even higher. Now that it's on AM, the station only covers a fraction of the market (our ground conductivity here is 2 or less) and with most of the staff gone, it just doesn't sound the same. I don't think most of our (former) listeners are too happy.
