Hi ...

I'll try to keep this real short this month. I wanted to wait a day, until all those "monthly reminders" got out of the way.

The BROADCAST list is oriented to professional broadcasters. Discussions on the operation of radio stations is the core. While there is a full faq at www.radiolists.net the bottom line is that participants are expected to show professional courtesy to one another.

Those of you who are regular readers have noticed that the traffic has increased lately. Some of it has been driven by the upcoming changes in the FM digital power levels, some by other aspects of IBOC. This is among the most contentious of issues that we see.

Three thoughts:
        1. Love it or hate it, IBOC/HD Radio is still here. If owners ask
to have it installed, we have to know something about it.
Sometimes there is choice. Sometimes not.

        2. While there are severe differences of opinion about the technology,
there is no need to attack another person for their views.

        3. I think one way to "cool" things down a bit is to try to
AVOID POSTS FULL OF CAPS. (sorry ... that hurts my eyes!)
If the emotion is that high, that often, perhaps we are
              taking things too personally.

Finally ... several Digest readers have written in to thank you for being more observant about trimming the quotes. As a thread develops, without it, the "new material" gets swamped by the quotes ... and in the Digest, it could lead to reading dozens of lines over and over, just to see a one sentence reply.

We are not saying "do not quote" ... just that it rarely should take more than a few lines to remind readers of the content of a thread. (If we have a highly technical thread where some feel a lot of quoting is needed, we have the Tech Zone for that...) For another example, with so many on high speed connections, we often forget how this can impact out dial-up cousins.

How can we make the list better? Let me know if you have some good suggestions.

thanks
barry
