[BC] Verizon T1 and batteries

    There is no power sent along the copper. If you have video/cable 
and/or Internet only, ATT gives you a standard house gateway. If you 
order out "dial tone", they put a small custom UPS in front of that box. 
That's what I have here. I made life very easy for the ATT tech, as I 
had the house pre-wired and marked with Cat 5/6 cables and blocks. He 
and I just opened and plugged in boxes. The techs are not Comcast grade, 
as they are clean, very polite, and mine knew what he was talking about. 
He even noticed the amateur radio IRLP node and asked if it needed port 
forwarding, which he then sat down and did for me.

     Both my wife and I like the service. Interesting, in that there is 
no RF involved. Its all IP. A lot of it, and fast. And the best part is 
that the remote control actually makes sense.

     Both my wife and I have 144/450 rigs in the car. In the case of a 
wide area power failure, everything will come to a halt. Local failures? 
Local misery.
