[BC] Verizon T1 and batteries

I don't think it is that T1s are being "pushed down closer to
'consumer' territory," but that the speeds of consumer Internet
service is getting faster and faster. DSL is as fast as a T1, or even
faster. FiOS, U-verse, and cable companies offer MUCH faster service
at MUCH lower rates.

Comcast's web site isn't working right now, so I cannot find the
symmetric speeds, but I can get 50 Mbps at my home asymmetric. I have
20 Mbps service, and at 5:40 PM Wednesday it tested at 21 Mbps to
Speakeasy's site listed as Washington, DC (I think it is in Ashburn,
VA), from my home nearby. I tested 21 Mbps to Atlanta too.

The only problem is packet loss and jitter, which really are too
high. This sometimes causes issues with the VoIP quality. THAT is
where a T1 shines. You get a more stable service, with much better
TOS. The providers also provide much faster service restoration.
