Richard:
The pay in India is very low. Cost of living is very low too, but to
expect to come back in a year or two with $100,000 is not realistic.
You won't make that much in two years. Yes, some Indian engineers are
returning to India, but mostly because they earn well FOR INDIA, and
middle class, US style, housing is being developed for them.
You can go to the middle east and make $140k a year with no problem.
IF you stay there for a year, you can earn with the first $80k tax
free. It used to be six months, oh well.
It is REALLY hard to stay there for a year if you have family in the
US, but most contracts do have off time, and many people meet their
families in other places, like England or other places in Europe.
Coming home does work, but it takes more time out of a week or two off.
The US government has job openings right now reverse engineering bomb
triggers. The triggers are brought to the engineer or technician,
sans any explosives or blasting caps, and are reverse engineered. It
is a federal job, with all the perks, including lifetime medical after
five years of service after retirement age.
The down side is it is three months in Indianhead, Maryland, followed
by nine months in the Middle East, most likely Afghanistan.
Nine months in Afghanistan is rough, but three months in Indianhead,
Maryland is beyond awful. It is Prince George's County after all. <g>
