[BC] Numark MP 102 CD player

Off the top of my head - not familiar with the Numark unit, but I have a 
couple of Denon FAs that don't spin up - bad bearings, according to a 
Service Bulletin.  And the symptom is similar to what you describe.

If you can open the unit enough to see the CD in play position, is it 
spinning up?

If so, you may just need to clean the laser and photodetector.

I'd try that first, anyway.
