Been in Union Shops

Been in Non Union Shops

Been a non-union shop manager-type

been a couple of places that tried to get a union in.

Generally, if Management has a clue, no union needed; all they do is
like Mathilda... Take ye money an' run Venezuela...

Case in point: TV Station builds new studio complex; but local GM
decides he wants solid teak paneling and furniture, instead of oak - or
even teak veneer...

Project goes WAY over budget as a result.

About half of the new equipment purchases get canceled, and the entire
staff gets an across the board 10% reduction, since when the home office
discovered it, the teak was already in place.

The TK 48s hadn't been shipped yet, nor about half of the VPR-2s.

And none of the News Department's new camcorders...

So, here we have a news department still using 3/4", tech-ops with a
Squeezoom that needed its own outlet from the HVAC - and still had to
get the chips reseated every few hours...

And the newest employees in every department let go - because that was
the Union Seniority System.

I got a nice letter of recommendation from the Chief Engineer, though,
so I had another job within a week of loosing that one....

Unions? BAH! HUMBUG!

I made the "mistake" of clicking a 'scope-probe onto a test-point in some equipment I designed. The technician's union filed a grievance. My punishment was "retraining." I had to watch a videotape.
