[BC] FM in Cell Phones

Barry Mishkind informs:  "Perhaps you are aware that of communication between the FCC Chairman and Congress and Administration officials seeking to garner support to require FM radios in cell phones.

"Part of this is in response to the 28-month period announced by the FCC in December where mobile phone companies must come up with something called the Commercial Mobile Service Alert System (CMAS). Something over 60 letters were sent to politicians who have been lobbied to get FM included."

I wonder whatever happened to the proposal that in an emergency every cell phone in the emergency area would ring with an alert?
