Several years ago, when I was doing "side work", at one of the stations qualifications for on-air people was breathing.  They'd hire high schoolers and let the previous high schooler train the new guy (or girl).  I never knew they hired a newby.  BTW, the manager thought HE was the reason for people to listen.  Anyway, I'd get calls on weekends, "I think we're off the air."  Why do you think that?  "I don't hear anything coming out of the speakers."  Is your transmitter on?  "How can I tell?"  Go look at the remote control.  "What's that?"
 
And it would go from there.....
