How about some "Brain Missing Engineers"?
April 12, 1997 appx 1330. Engineer putting
suitcase in closet after return from NAB '97.
Has sudden, severe headache. Believes he is
having a stroke. Visits primary care doctor's
associate. Diagnosed with muscle tension
headache, prescribed meds for nausea and
pain.
April 14, 1997 appx 0830. Engineer calls
doctor's office to report headache getting worse.
Was prescribed head CAT scan at hospital.
CAT scan reveals brain aneurysm. Admitted
to hospital, he requests same neurosurgeon who
saved his father's life in 1987 following a stroke.
Has angiogram in Radiology.
April 15, 2007 appx 0185. Transport takes engineer
to Operating Room. Surgery estimated at 3 to 4 hours
due to complex location of aneurysm. Actual time 9
to 10 hours because aneurysm was not as shown on
angiogram. Additional brain matter removed to access
aneurysm. It bursts with blood loss estimated at 3 liters.
Finally clipped, two neurosurgeons deem it dangerous
to explore further, settle on compromise. Engineer is
bed ridden for 3 weeks, then 2 weeks of PT, OT, ST
in Physical Rehab where he has to learn to walk again.
Today: Engineer is frustrated, unable to ascertain where
removed brain matter is. Engineer finds this a useful excuse
for many deeds :-)
